Amy Juergens' power of empathic manipulation:

The first episode this is made evident in is S1E5, the episode entitled 'What Have You Done To Me?'. Ben and Amy go out for a picnic in the park, and as Ben looks around, two other couples are seen; Couple A: a young man and woman with a baby, Couple B: an elderly couple holding hands. Both couples seem to be happy and content. Shortly after Ben proposes to Amy, however, she begins to cry, realizing he knows about her pregnancy. This sparks negative emotional reactions in the other two couples. Couple A's baby starts crying and is unable to be calmed down, while Couple B suddenly engages in a heated argument. Both couples' moods change drastically as soon as Amy begins to cry, showing that Amy has manipulated their emotions. This could also explain why Ben falls madly and deeply in love with Amy after their first encounter, and could also be a possible explanation for Amy's ability to cause Ricky (a teenage boy experienced in sexual activity) to orgasm after, roughly, two and a half minutes, on her first sexual encounter. Amy's ability could be a possible cause behind much of the linkage and mystery that shrouds TSLOTAT.

  1. That's an interesting theory. It really is, but I don't think it's accurate.

The couples fighting was supposed to show that everything may live happily but there will always be problems between any couple.

As for the Amy and Ricky sex scene, I'm sure they were doing it longer than it showed. I mean like they aren't gonna have a huge drawn sex scene in a show that is mostly watched by 13-18 year olds.

However, I do believe she has this power to manipulate people. All throughout the show it was all about Amy. She always got everything she wanted and got angry when she didn't. For example, when the gay couple decided not to adopt her baby. Any other time she saw them, she would make a snide comment about it or give them an evil look, because that was what she wanted.

The thing with Ben though, is his own issues. I think he has problems letting go of people. He also had some slight emotional abuse growing up from his dad. Leo is a good generous man, but at the same time he doesn't treat Ben fairly. He acts more like a father towards Ricky, than towards Ben. Ben also had to deal with the loss of his mother. I think Amy reminds him of his mom and that's why he's reluctant to let her go.

Amy certainly does have some manipulation skills, but I do not think in those situations she was manipulating anybody.
